What is Framesmart?
Framesmart is an online pattern-making software that lets you create beautiful cut and fold book art patterns and unique framed folded paper designs. It’s subscription-based, so you can generate unlimited patterns without buying them individually.
Do I need special software to use it?
No extra downloads are required. Framesmart runs directly in your web browser. You just upload an image, adjust settings, and the pattern is instantly created.
What types of patterns can I make?
Framesmart supports a wide range of frame patterns and book patterns, so you can create the style that best suits your project.
Frame Patterns (exclusive to Framesmart, made with a Cricut Maker/Explore or similar cutting machine):
- Fold In – Paper is cut and scored, with the tabs folded in alternating directions to create a dynamic, textured effect.
- Cut Out – Tabs are removed, leaving only the concertina folds. Cardstock can be placed behind to add depth and contrast.
- Fore Edge (Photo Strip) – Strips of a stretched photo image are folded and arranged in a deep box frame, transforming folded edges into a layered picture display.
Book Patterns (handmade using scissors, rulers, and careful folding):
- Inverted Cut and Fold – Pages are cut and even tabs folded inward for a layered effect with depth.
- Embossed Cut and Fold – Similar to inverted, but odd tabs are folded inward, producing an embossed appearance.
- Combi Cut and Fold – Combines folding at the top/bottom with cut-and-fold inward tabs for a complex finish.
- Shadow Cut and Fold – Every other page is left uncut, producing a shadow effect with extra contrast.
- Multilayer Cut and Fold – Tabs are folded to different depths, giving a three-dimensional layered look.
- Fold Only – Also known as MMF. Simple folds at 45° with no cutting, ideal for basic words and shapes.
- Fore Edge (Photo Strip) – Strips of a stretched photo are glued to page edges, creating a striking book-edge artwork.
