Pattern Types

Framesmart specialises in creating intricate and unique patterns for various paper-folding techniques that bring depth and artistry to frames and books. Explore the different pattern types and find the perfect style for your next creative project.

Frame Patterns

Frame patterns are exclusive to Framesmart, designed to bring an unparalleled artistic touch to your display pieces. These designs require the use of a cutting machine with the ability to score, such as a Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore.

Fold In

A sophisticated technique where paper is cut and scored. When folded into a concertina shape, the tabs are strategically folded in the opposite direction, creating a dynamic and textured effect.

Cut Out

A striking pattern where the tabs are completely removed, leaving only the concertina folds. This allows for the placement of cardstock behind the folds, enhancing the depth and definition of the design.

Fore Edge (Photo Strip)

A unique design where strips of paper featuring a stretched photo image are precisely folded and arranged within a deep box frame. This technique creates a seamless visual flow, transforming the folded edges into a striking, layered display of imagery.

Book Patterns

Book patterns are carefully cut and folded by hand, using simple tools such as scissors and rulers. This hands-on approach allows for precision and artistry in every design.

Inverted Cut and Fold

An intricate method where the edges of the pages are cut at precise points, and the even-numbered tabs are folded inwards. This technique results in a beautiful layered effect, adding depth to the design.

Embossed Cut and Fold

Similar to the inverted cut and fold, but the odd-numbered tabs are folded inwards instead. This subtle change creates an embossed look that enhances the visual appeal of the design.

Combi Cut and Fold

A combination technique where the top and bottom of the pages are carefully folded while other tabs are cut and folded inward. This creates a complex and visually engaging pattern.

Shadow Cut and Fold

A creative twist on the inverted cut and fold, where every other page is left uncut. This selective cutting creates a stunning shadow effect, adding contrast and depth to the artwork.

Multilayer Cut and Fold

A mesmerizing technique where tabs on pages are folded to varying depths, creating a layered, three-dimensional effect. This method enhances the sense of depth and complexity, making the design appear multi-dimensional and dynamic.

Fold Only

A simple yet elegant technique that requires no cutting. The top right and bottom right corners of each page are folded at a 45-degree angle to create the image. This method is best suited for basic designs or words, as it does not allow for intricate details.

Fore Edge (Photo Strip)

A distinctive technique where strips of paper featuring a stretched photo image are folded and glued to the edge of book pages. This approach blends imagery seamlessly into the book, creating a striking visual effect that transforms the edges into an artistic display.
