Shadow Style & Threshold Slider

The Shadow Style and Threshold Slider work together to control the application of shadows (also known as two-tone), black, and white areas in your pattern. This combination enhances depth, contrast, and clarity in both frame and book patterns.

Availability

Both controls are available for all Frame and Book Pattern Types except Fore Edge and Multilayer patterns

How It Works

Shadow Style

The Shadow Style buttons control the application of the shadow (two-tone) effect within the pattern:

  • None – No shadow effect is applied.
  • Odd Columns – Shadows are applied to odd-numbered leaves or folded segments where the image fits within the defined threshold.
  • Even Columns – Shadows are applied to even-numbered leaves or folded segments, shifting the shadow placement for a different visual effect.

Threshold Slider

The Threshold Slider changes the way black, shadow, and white areas are balanced.

  • With Shadow Style set to None, the slider adjusts the black-and-white split. Moving it to the right increases black areas, while moving it to the left increases white areas.
  • With Shadow Style set to Odd or Even Leaves, the slider defines two transitions. The first is from black to shadow and the second is from shadow to white. Adjusting the slider will change these ranges, and the After Canvas will update the pattern image accordingly.

Why It’s Useful

  • Enhances depth and visual impact in the design.
  • Improves clarity by separating key features from the background.
  • Allows creative variation by switching between none, odd, or even leaf styles.
  • Fine-tunes the balance of tones for both simple and complex artwork.
